White halo around a product photo? Check the edge first
Find out whether a pale rim comes from the cutout, the original lighting or sharpening, then choose a correction that preserves the product.
This guide describes the current AIPhotoRetouch workflow. Generative edits can change details; compare every result with your original.
The short answer
A white halo often becomes visible when pale edge pixels from the original background sit against a darker new background. Check the exported cutout on light and dark surfaces before editing again. A mask or edge-color correction can help; blur or a new generative scene can hide the rim while changing the product.
Open the photo editor
Separate a leftover background from a real highlight
Open the original beside the exported cutout. A bright reflection on glossy packaging may belong to the object. A pale border outside its outline may come from the old background. Adobe describes how partially selected edge pixels can retain background color and create a fringe when placed on a different surface.
Inspect the handle opening, corners, fine straps and any translucent material. Check at the intended display size as well as close up. If the border appears only in one preview, inspect the exported file in another viewer before changing it. An edge that looks acceptable on white can look very different on charcoal.

Test transparency and edge color separately
First confirm that the file actually contains transparent pixels. Use AIPhotoRetouch’s PNG transparency checker for that question, then view the result against contrasting backgrounds. Transparency alone does not prove that the edge is clean: partly transparent pixels can still carry a pale tint.
A checker pattern baked into the picture is different from real transparency. Also compare the final crop and dimensions with your delivery requirements. Keep an untouched source and a separate export so each test starts from a known image instead of accumulating changes on a repeatedly compressed copy.
Use the least destructive correction
For precise work, a layer editor can refine a mask and correct contaminated edge colors. Adobe documents fringe-removal options including color decontamination. Apply a local correction on a copy, then recheck fine gaps and soft edges. An aggressive inward adjustment can remove the rim by removing part of the product.
Do not paint a dark outline around everything or blur the entire silhouette. Those shortcuts can make a pale halo less visible while producing a new hard edge. Transparent glass, mesh and soft fabric need particular care; a manual retoucher may be the better choice when the shape or material must remain exact.

When another automatic cutout is worth trying
In AIPhotoRetouch, start from the original upload and choose background removal. It costs 1 credit and supports JPG, PNG and WebP sources. Review the actual result and exported transparency before placing it in a listing. This is an automatic cutout workflow, not a manual edge-painting workspace.
There is no guarantee that another run fixes a difficult edge. If the source is out of focus, blends into its background or contains strong pale reflections, a clearer capture or manual mask may be more productive. A generated studio background is a different task and can alter visible details; do not use it as proof that a cutout was repaired.

Approve the product, not just the outline
After correcting the edge, compare labels, seams, handles and the complete silhouette with the original. Check that small holes are still open and that reflections or translucent areas look plausible. Place the image on the actual destination background because a neutral preview cannot represent every use.
Export transparency in a format that supports it, such as PNG or an appropriate WebP export; JPEG cannot retain an alpha channel. Inspect that final file once more. If the product has changed, return to the source rather than accepting a cleaner outline at the cost of an inaccurate listing image.

Common questions
Does a transparent PNG guarantee a clean cutout?
No. Transparency describes the file’s pixels, while pale or contaminated edge colors can still create a visible fringe.
Can AIPhotoRetouch paint a mask by hand?
No. Its background-removal task is automatic. Use a manual layer editor when you need direct control over individual edge areas.
